Buying to resell
A lot of what leaves this warehouse goes straight back out to a store, a booth, or a marketplace listing. If that is you, put your seller's permit on file once and your invoices come through without California sales tax.
How it works
- 1Create an accountSame account you bid with. Takes a minute and needs a card on file.
- 2Send your permitEnter the permit number and issuing state, and attach the certificate as a PDF or a photo.
- 3We review itUsually the same business day. You will get an email either way, and we will say what is missing if anything is.
- 4Buy without the taxEvery invoice after approval comes through without California sales tax. Nothing to remember at checkout.
Worth knowing
- The permit has to be yours and it has to be current.
- We check the number against the issuing state. An expired or mismatched permit gets sent back with a note saying why.
- Exemption starts when we approve it, not when you bid.
- An invoice already issued keeps the tax it was calculated with. Send the permit before the auction closes and you are covered.
- The buyer's premium still applies.
- The permit exempts sales tax. It does not change the premium added to the hammer price.
- You are certifying the goods are for resale.
- That is what the certificate says. Keeping something for your own use makes you liable for the use tax on it.
